The U.S. Men’s National Teams will return to the World Cup in Qatar after failing to qualifying in for the 2018 event. Despite losing to Costa Rica 2-0 on Wednesday night, the team qualified for the biggest sporting event in the World because of a tiebreaker (goal differential) which means Costa Rica will have to play New Zealand in June. As of April 1st, U.S. squad drew into Group B in the World Cup Group stage that will pitt them against England who they tied in the 2010 World Cup Group stage 1-1. Also in the the Group will be Iran who beat the U.S. in the 1998 World Cup Group stage 2-1. The third team in the Group the stage will determined in a three way round robin tournament between Scotland, Wales and Ukraine.
The Inability of the Men’s National team in not making the 2018 World Cup was seen as the lowest point in American Soccer history because of the teams success in previous World Cup tournaments which saw them advance to the knockout rounds in both 2010 and 2014 and had hope to join the ranks top notch soccer power house nations such as Brazil, France, Argentina, Germany and England. Sadly that came to a shocking blow when they loss to Trinidad and Tobago on Oct. 10th 2017. Gone are some of the notable players such as Michael Bradley, Clint Dempsey, Jozy Altitore, Tim Howard, Landon Donavon who were aging veterans. The new addition of the U.S. Men’s Team features the Golden Generation of stars such as Christian Pulisic, Weston McKinnie, Giovanni Reyna, Sergino Dest and Kellen Acosta. Also gone is legendary coach Bruce Arena, who was replaced by Gregg Berhalter who at times faced criticisms for his tactical approach with the squad but manage to lead his young squad to the biggest tournament in the World.
So what next for U.S. National Team? Coach Berhalter needs figure out who he will pick to be apart of 23 man roster that will take the field in Qatar for the World Cup that starts on November 21st and ends on December 18th. St. Louis Natives Josh Sargent who plays for Norwich City of the English Premier League and Tim Ream who plays for Fulham FC in the 2nd Division English Football Championship are one of the candidates that hopes to be on apart roster when they play a series of Friendly soccer matches this summer leading up to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar which more than a billion people will tune in during that period.
